What is Sputnik V?

Sputnik V is the first C0VID-19 vaccine in the world to be authorized for use, developed by the Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Moscow (RUSSIA). The V in the name stands for vaccine. This vaccine is also based on a modified version of the common cold virus and has the efficacy rate of 91.6%. This is a two-dose vaccine which uses two different adenoviruses at each of the dose. One of the best benefit of adenovirus vaccines is that it is not required or compulsory to store and transport them in very low temperatures.

 The vaccine was approved  for distribution in Russia initially, and then was followed my several other countries. Distribution in huge numbers of the vaccine began at the month of December 2020 in various countries such as Russia, Belarus, Serbia, Argentina, Hungary and the United Arab Emirates. Till February 2021, as a result,  nearly a billion of doses of the the vaccine Sputnik V had been ordered Globally.

Cost in India: 

  • The price of vaccine includes with a GST of 5% on each dose.
  • The cost of sputnik v covid-19 vaccine in India will be Rs.995.40 per shot.
 

What is Adenovirus based Vaccines?


 Adenovirus are non-enveloped and doubled stranded DNA virus. This type of virus is associated  to common cold and other kind of illnesses. They play the role as a transporter of the DNA instructions, which is to synthesis the spike proteins of the SARS-C0V-2 virus in  the human body. This results in the production of the antibodies which fights back against the the spike proteins, thus, the immune system  is prepared.

Adenoviruses



 Vaccines based of adenovirus causes some side effects such as flu-like illnesses, headaches and fatigues. As it is seen that adenovirus causes some mild infections in the human body and also their viral replication can be stopped by applying genetic modifications, hence, this type of vaccines are mostly safe and have a vey few chances of having side- effects.

Comparison between other Vaccines?

Covaxin: 

Covid-19 vaccine made by Bharat Biotech manufacturer with the partnership with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and also with the National Institute of Virology. Its efficacy rate is seen to be 81% and will cost Rs 600 for the state government and Rs 1200 for the private hospitals .

Covishield:

The vaccine developed by the University of Oxford having the partnership with AstraZeneca, which is produced in Pune (India) at the Serum Institute. Its cost is known to be Rs 300 for the state government. At first it showed the efficacy rate of 70.4% and then later it increased to efficacy rate of 90%.

Sputnik V:

The vaccine developed Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Moscow (RUSSIA). Its cost is to be made less than 10 dollars. It showed the efficacy rate of 91.6% which is seen to be highest among the other covid-19 vaccines.
