Why is the Sky and ocean Blue? | knowledge Hub

Have you at any point asked why the sky seems, by all accounts, to be blue? Generally, people can't tell the appropriate answers to these questions as it is more likely to be scientific, so it is a bit a sort of difficult but here I'll be giving you the exact answer to this question on a common and simple level without diving deep into scientific terms which will make it easy for you to understand as well as also to share with others about this topic. Now you won't be hesitating while answering these questions.

Why is the Sky Blue?

The Sky happens to be blue due to a phenomenon called Scattering of light. When the light enters the Earth's Atmosphere, it is scattered in different directions by the gases existing in the atmosphere along with the contribution of the particles present. The lights emitted by the sun though appear to be white in colors, but are actually made up of all the particular rainbow colors that we see when a rainbow generally occurs.

Blue Sky

All these different colors of light rays have different wavelengths and are continuously being scattered by the gases and particles present in the atmosphere. The light ray with shorter wavelengths are known to be scattered more easily and so the one with longer wavelengths escapes out of this phenomenon (scattering of light). The light ray with the shorter wavelength is the blue color and hence, blue-colored rays are remained in the atmosphere and result in making the sky appear blue in color.

As a matter of fact, violet and indigo colors are known to have a shorter wavelength than blue, so why it is that we see the sky in blue color only? Well, it is because our eyes are specialized to detect blue color better and easier than that violet and indigo. Or else, we might be seeing a different color sky which sounds interesting.

Why do the Oceans appear Blue in color?

As a child, I thought that Oceans are naturally blue in color due to their vast size and numerous varieties of aquatic animals and plants, which isn't correct. Many of you might have the same answer as me or with other interesting, childish thoughts and answers, You may consider telling your thoughts on behalf on this topic in the COMMENT box. So let's answer this question to know the real reason for its blue appearance.
Blue Ocean

The ocean water appears to be blue because when the sunlight hits and enter the ocean water, the gigantic amount of water molecules present there can absorb the red, yellow, and green lights of the sunlight as they also have higher wavelengths, so the only blue color is left in the ocean which wasn't absorbed properly at all. Hence, it makes the ocean water appear blue in color.

Why is Sun Red at  Sunrise and Sunset?

Moreover, do you know why the sun appears to be red in color during the sunrise and the sunset? Its solution is pretty much similar to the above-discussed question. This also occurs due to the phenomenon called scattering of light

Red color sun

When the sun is on or near the horizon (the line at which the sky and the Earth's surface appears to meet together) that is usually at the time of either sunrise or sunset, the lights emitted by the sun have to travel a long distance to reach us in compare to the distance at the noontime. Thus, the light rays having shorter wavelengths can not reach us while the longer ones do, that is the red color ray whose wavelength is longest. This results in appearing the sun in red color.

In the end, I hope you guys found it helpful, knowledgeable, and have cleared your doubts and problems based on those topics. You may consider asking such questions and any kind of problems and doubts to me in the comment box and I'll be replying back ASAP or by answering with a new post.

THANK YOU!
